We designers get it. It’s hard to agree on a budget until the scope of work has been laid out in full. But having at least a range in mind can prevent a lot of time-wasting and disappointment. Having a realistic grip on how much things cost has everything to do with setting the foundations for a smooth future. That fee needs to be large enough to resource the best work you can and small enough to feel like you’re getting great value for money. You are buying in a service you can’t do by yourselves AKA the hard stuff. Resolving the hard stuff is a valuable skill. Put a price in your mind that works for you but be aware that you will need to be realistic about how far it will stretch.
